A Guide to Legal Aid in Criminal Cases
What is Legal Aid?
Legal Aid is a Government funded way of paying for legal advice representation. Legal Aid is a very important facility enabling people to receive legal advice and representation when in most cases they could not afford it otherwise.
In Criminal Law cases an individual can find themselves dealing with the vast powers and resources of bodies such as the Police and the Crown Prosecution Service. Legal Aid can mean that people can get help and advice from a qualified lawyer to help them to put their case forward and to protect their interests.
Over recent years there have been a number of changes to Criminal Law Legal Aid in terms of what representation people are entitled to and what the Government will pay a Legal Aid lawyer to conduct a case.
